Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Plant is commonly located outside a building and often on the roof. The noise from these units may affect nearby residences or offices. Design of noise controls must have regard for air flow and static pressure drop.

Typically the amount of noise reduction will depend on the ambient noise level in the area – a condenser in the city (noisy) will usually require less noise control than a condenser located in the suburbs (quiet).
