Train Noise

Residential dwellings near railway lines are exposed to railway noise from passenger trains and can also be impacted by the noise from freight trains. Councils require new developments to be designed to meet the SEPP (Infrastructure) 2007 and The NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s document ‘Developments near Rail Corridors and Busy Roads’.

Depending on the measured noise level on site, special building materials will be required including sound rated glazing, acoustic insulation and silenced mechanical ventilation.
